North Shore Driving School’s online classroom course allows teen students to complete the full 30-hour classroom portion of Wisconsin’s 30-6-6 driver education program from home, on their schedule. This flexible option is ideal for busy families who still want high-quality instruction from an established local driving school.

What You’ll Learn in Our Online Classroom

Our online curriculum is structured to cover everything from basic driving concepts to more advanced topics like freeway driving, emergencies, and responsible decision‑making. Lessons combine videos, interactive activities, and knowledge checks to help students stay engaged and retain key information.

  • Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) & Licensing Steps (1 hr)
    • Wisconsin GDL requirements, permit rules, and stages of licensing.
    • Probationary and regular license expectations and responsibilities.
  • Automotive History & Modern Technology (1 hr)
    • How roads, vehicles, and driver education have evolved over time.
    • Electric vehicles and newer safety technologies in today’s cars.
  • Mental & Physical Readiness (1 hr)
    • Effects of fatigue, emotions, and peer pressure on driving decisions.
    • Strategies for staying calm, focused, and prepared behind the wheel.
  • Alcohol, Drugs & Impaired Driving (1 hr)
    • How alcohol and drugs affect reaction time and judgment.
    • Wisconsin laws and serious consequences of impaired driving.
  • Knowing Your Vehicle (3 hrs)
    • Controls, dashboard indicators, transmissions, brakes, and basic systems.
    • Vehicle maintenance, safety features, and pre‑trip checks.
  • Fundamental Driving Skills (4 hrs)
    • Starting, stopping, turning, lane use, intersections, and parking maneuvers.
    • Neighborhood, city, and multi‑lane driving strategies.
  • Special Situations & Rural Driving (3 hrs)
    • School zones, work zones, funeral processions, and rural hazards.
    • Freeway Driving & Railroad Safety (2 hrs)
      • Merging, lane changes, interchanges, and freeway etiquette.
      • Railroad crossings, warning signs, and safe decision‑making.
    • Safety, Emergencies & Driving in Adverse Conditions (4 hrs)
      • Crash prevention, emergency maneuvers, and hazard recognition.
      • Driving in rain, snow, ice, and reduced visibility.
    • Sharing the Road & Managing Risk (3 hrs)
      • Working safely around pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.
      • Speed management, space management, and distracted driving risks.
    • Highway Trips, Seat Belts & Organ Donation (7 hrs)
      • Trip planning, roadside emergencies, and highway safety practices.
      • Seat belt and restraint system use, plus an introduction to organ donation awareness.
    • Licensing & Next Steps (1 hr)
      • Preparing for the knowledge test and road test.
      • Wisconsin point system basics and long‑term safe driving habits.

By the end of the course, students will have completed the full 30 hours of required classroom instruction and will be ready to focus on behind‑the‑wheel lessons with a licensed driving school.
